Start your trip at the Sparks Lake Trailhead, right off the Cascade Lakes Scenic Highway. There are many resting spots along the way to Hosmer Lake, including one at the south shore of Sparks Lake where you can eat lunch.

About 3-4 hours into the hike, you will be able to see the lake from the trail, and will have to do a little bushwhacking to get to the water. Once at the lake, you will get an amazing view of the backside of Mount Bachelor and of the sunset on the horizon of Hosmer Lake.

There are many family friendly and dog friendly campsites around the lake. Alternatively, if you are looking to get off the beaten path, you can explore the west shore and make your own camping spot.

In the morning, you will wake up to a layer of fog on top of the calm lake. Day 2 starts off through a drier, thinner forest with multiple lava flows.

After 5 more miles, you will arrive at Lava Lake. Top off your adventure with a swim, or with a refreshment at the lake's market, with a view of Mt. Bachelor, Broken Top, and South Sister!

This trip is most enjoyable during late spring, summer, or early autumn.
