Fall Surf Fish and Camp at Cape Hatteras

Buxton, North Carolina

Description

Added by Michael Kirby

World class surf fishery awaits those who make the journeyCamping available for the ruggedOther lodging for those of a more refined nature

Fishing the surf is fairly easy to learn, and on the Outer Banks most will not have to struggle to catch fish. A little advice from the local bait and tackle should be sufficient to get you going.

The campgrounds are rustic, inexpensive, and tucked away from the commotion of the rest of the island. With the permit, and in season, you can drive onto the beach to fish, but it is a short hike away.

You can use the public cleaning stations to prepare your fish for the grill back at camp, or practice catch and release, returning for steak over the coals at your campsite! If you take the youngsters, a great day can be ended with smores and ghost stories about Blackbeard, who favored this area to avoid the British!

Sunscreen is recommended. It stays fairly warm into October, and the water is very nice into the fall. A sweater can be needed at times.
