It is all about respect.

Sometimes we win, sometimes we learn.

By: Nico Mercado + Save to a List

3 pm, I´m getting into the car, I still have my boots on. Usually, I take them out every time I finish a hike, but that´s the thing, I didn´t finish.

Let me start from the Beginning. I´m far away from being a quiter, in fact, I push myself to the limit in every thing I do. But this time was different.

We started the hike like 8 am, we knew beforehand that it will take us between 8 and 9 hours to complete the loop, so we nedeed to be effective on our´s choices when it comes to choose the trails, after all, there´s not much light at this time off the year.

I´ve got to admit, I felt something weird in my stomach when I wrote " be effective" couple lines before, cause we didn´t.

After 500 mts started the hike, we missed the turn and instead go to the beginning of the ridge, we decided to follow the creek and try to climb the mountain later ahead, in a more " vertical " situation. Stupid decision I got to say. It was super risky, we weren´t ready, we had no arneses, no ropes and more important, we had no experience at all.

After climb maybe 200 mts, more or less, we stoped, and agreed that there was no point to keep going up, bigger walls, loose rocks, not worth it. So we came back.

On our way, we found this guy, who told us that he followed us all the way since we started.

- Didn´t tell you guys were at the wrong way, cause I knew that you will realice from yourselves. Mountains are wise you know? It just that we don´t pay much of attention, Its all about respect.- He said.

At firts I though he was nuts, si I did not listent to him, plus, what kind of people can see that you are in danger and not say anything? But, later at home, I reconsider and it is true. There are limits, and even if I believe that we put the limits to ourselves, I think that sometimes we have to be smart, respectful and be ready to learn.

We are coming back next week to finish what we´ve started, and also to say thank you to the mountains. After all, they have millons more years than I do, right??

Nico.
