Whiteface Mountain Summit
The Whiteface Mountain Summit trail in New York’s Adirondacks offers a challenging yet rewarding hike, spanning 9.5 miles round trip with an elevation gain of over 3,600 feet. This trail is known for its steep ascents and rocky terrain, especially near the summit, but the breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and Lake Placid make it worth the effort. Hikers frequently mentio...
Hike Cobble Lookout in the Wilmington Wild Forest
Park at the trailhead located on County Route 18A just after the split from Whiteface Veteran's Memorial Highway in Wilmington, NY. There is a small parking lot for 4-5 cars and a pull off just ahead for another 3-4 cars.
The trail begins at the back of the parking area. Following the contour of the Stephenson Range, the trail winds past an old rock quarry at .2 miles and continues through a th...
Rock Climb at Notch Mountain in the Adirondacks
Park at the Moss Cliff Parking area on Route 86 and cross the road to the trailhead for Copperas Pond. Make a short but steep approach to Notch Mountain Slabs, taking a left when the trail appears to split. The immediate face has four single pitch climbs, but skirting the face to the left brings you to the more exposed slab where 3-4 pitches will get you to the summit of Notch Mountain with Whi...
Jay Covered Bridge
Originally erected in 1857, it was restored to its original state in 2006. The only bridge traffic allowed is pedestrian and bicycle. The bridge resides over the east branch of the Ausable River.
It is currently listed on the State Register of Historic Places.
In the warmer months, the covered bridge swimming hole, located right next to the Jay Covered Bridge, makes for a great swimming hole.
Rock Climb Owl's Head Mountain
Owls Head Mountain is a hot spot when it comes to hiking. For climbers, it's a great crag to hone in your skills and practice moving fluidly. The height of the wall is on the smaller side, I'd say somewhere around 50-55 feet. The view and rock quality, however, that is the real draw.
Once you've parked (be sure not to block the road or the driveways to the homes in the area) trek your way up. ...
Cobble Hill
Looking for a great family hike up in the Adirondacks? Take a look into Cobble Hill right off of Mirror Lake in Lake Placid. This is a perfect hike for those with younger kids and want to expose them to hiking.
Cobble Hill has a little bit of everything all packed into the short distance. The trailhead is located on the edge of the Northwoods School so the best place to park is right inside ...
