Description

The best features of this hike are the view and also the interesting terrain. Along this hike you cross over a few streams, walk through a wooded area and also hike on top of a mountain. It is located inside of Minnewaska State Park which also holds many other trails and a lake. You won't encounter many people on this hike during the summer but if you go while the leaves are changing, expect every city dweller to suddenly come out of their holes. I highly suggest that you circle the entire lake before you leave because it holds some awesome views.

From the parking lot, follow the road down past the lake/beach area and continue following that for a mile or so until on your right you see a road for Millbrook Mountain (yellow blazes). Turn onto that road and follow it until you get to a fork in the road where you will go left. Follow the road past Patterson's Pellet (you can't miss it) until you see red blazes on the trees off to your right. You will want to follow the red blazes for so many miles until you enter the Mohonk Preserve (don't worry, you won't need a day pass). You will enter onto a road and you will want to look for the sign back to Minnewaska where you will follow red blazes through a forest. You can find plenty of better/more descriptive directions online but that is the run down.

Getting there: From Route 209 you turn onto 44/55 and head up the mountain towards New Paltz until you see the "Minnewaska State Park" sign on your right side - it kind of comes out of nowhere if you're unfamiliar with the area. The parking/entrance fee is $10. You must go to the very top parking lot.
