Mount Beacon Hike
Beacon, New York
Description

Distance: 9 miles roundtripElevation gain: 1,561 ftBeautiful lookoutsGreat workout
This beautiful hike has a wide range of vegetation, with lookout points throughout the trail where you can see the towns of Beacon and Cold Springs, and the Hudson River.
There is a parking lot for Hudson Scenic Parks with lots of spots - the trail is adjacent. The hike begins with a flat trail that leads to a staircase. The metal staircase is narrow, allowing for only one person at a time. At the end of the staircase, you begin the true ascent. Follow the red markers! Try not to be tempted by the "shortcuts," as many of them have unstable, rocky ground. After about a mile of climbing, the first lookout point is reached, which was the original rail road and casino. Follow the trail to the Fire Tower and you will truly have unmatched views!
