The Picacho Peak Via Box Canyon Loop Trail in Las Cruces, New Mexico, is a moderately challenging hiking trail. Spanning 5.3 miles, the trail offers a round-trip hike that takes approximately 3 to 4 hours to complete. The trail begins with a gradual incline, leading to a steep ascent to the peak. The trail is well-marked and maintained, with a mix of sandy and rocky terrain. The trail's main attraction is the Picacho Peak, a prominent rock formation that stands at an elevation of 1,017 feet. From the peak, hikers can enjoy panoramic views of the Organ Mountains and the Mesilla Valley. The trail also features a box canyon, a narrow canyon with steep walls on three sides. Hikers should wear sturdy shoes due to the rocky terrain and bring plenty of water, especially during the summer months when temperatures can reach high levels. The trail is open year-round, but the best time to hike is in the spring or fall when the weather is milder. Dogs are allowed on the trail but must be kept on a leash.

Leasburg Slot Canyon is a 2.4 mile trail that offers a unique experience that is close to Interstate 25. The directions will take you to the banks of the Rio Grande where you can park anywhere along the dirt road that is convenient. This hike should only be attempted in the late fall or winter because crossing the Rio Grande is necessary to get there. Please don't cross if the water is high! I ...

Hike to Massacre Peak
There is not a designated trail here. You will have to find your own way up the mesa. The climb is rated as moderate is about 2 miles long. There is an elevation gain of about 700 ft. Good views from the top.
Explore Faulkner Canyon
The drive in the canyon is very sandy so a good vehicle is required. In the canyon is the black hill where Billy the Kid and 3 of his friends were hiding out. Was not able to find their names inscribed on one of the rocks.
There are also remnants of an old ranch. Nice walk along a sandy arroyo with some colorful rocks.
Explore Foster Canyon.
Foster canyon is along hwy NM 185 near Buckle Bar Canyon and Faulkner canyon. It is a fairly easy walk in a sandy arroyo. There some interesting rock formations there. Also by climbing some of the hills off the arroyo you will have some good views of the surrounding mountains.
Hike the Sierra Vista Trail
The trail follows the foothills of the Organ Mountains. The terrain is hilly but not very difficult to hike. There are some steep laces and also some sandy places. I have only hiked sections of the trail at different occasions . There are a lot of interesting plants along the trail. The trail is nice to hike at anytime of the year.
