This is an absolute must-do campout if you are near White Sands National Monument and enjoy spending time under the stars. $5 entrance fee + $3 for overnight camping inside the park.

Camping inside White Sands National Monument is something that every explorer must do. I say this because of how cheap, and easy, and beautiful the park is. When I first saw images of White Sands I wasn't that impressed. But when you arrive at the park, the vastness and beauty of the white sand and the mountains that line the horizon make for one of the more unforgettable places I have ever spent under that stars. Sometimes there is missile testing going on nearby which can cause closure so be sure to check before you commit to anything! There are different cut-off times for purchasing a permit so be sure to check the website. The park is open year-round but temperature can get insanely hot during the summer season, so while I did select all season for visiting, I would choose wisely and check the weather report for both the park and Alamogordo (the nearest small city 13 miles away).
