Distance: 3.8 miles roundtripElevation gain: 400 ftHike to the highest point in New Jersey at 1,803 feetShort hike along the historic Appalachian Trail

Park in the Appalachian Trail Parking Area just past the Park Office on Rt. 23. From the parking lot, take the blue-blazed Connector Trail. Follow this for less than a quarter mile to the Iris Trail, blazed with a red dot on white. This will intersect with the Appalachian Trail. The AT will take you past the park office and across Rt. 23.

Around a mile later, you will encounter a viewing platform to your right. From here you can get a fantastic view of the surrounding countryside as well as the obelisk memorial which tops the high point on Kittany Ridge, just under half a mile away. Shortly after the viewing platform, take the middle trail with red and green blazes at a three way intersection (the AT branches to the right) to continue to the monument.

After exploring the monument, return the way you came or follow signs to go down part of the ridge and enjoy the lakeside beach within the park.
