Fishing is a great occasion to spend time with your loved ones, plus, you get to enjoy the outdoor environment, traveling, camping and most of all the fishing. Fishing is a relaxing hobby that most people don’t enjoy due to the fact that it takes a lot of patience to actually catch a fish. But, what most people don’t consider when going fishing and camping is the fact that you, your family and friends are now surrounded by each other’s laughter, conversations and all nature has to offer.

Well, here is one of my latest adventures and what a trip it was, I hope you enjoy reading it.

It was a Friday afternoon and my dad got home earlier than usual. Surprise he said, we are going fishing for the weekend, the whole family. This was great and we were all very excited, yet, at the time we didn't own a vehicle. When I brought up this little, tiny fact, everyone seemed to be glaring at me so I just lifted my hands and retreated before someone jumped me.

My dad smiled and said he invited his friend from work so transport was no concern. Luckily we are a small family, you see, it’s just me, my sis, mom, and dad so we would easily fit with one other guy. However, if the car is small, we might not, but I decided to keep this for myself.

We all went upstairs and packed our bags, our tents, food and drinks and the most important of all, the fishing rods. We had just finished arraigning it all on the porch when a car pulled in.

It seemed like a big enough car and was blue, my favorite color. A tall guy got out of the driver’s side and smiled at me standing on the porch frozen. Come on I heard dad say behind me and almost jumped off the porch. After catching my breath, I grabbed my bags, tackle, and rods. I approached the cars big trunk with a kind of running trot as the excitement filled me.

Once everything was loaded, we climbed in and was relieved that we did not have to sit like sardines in a can. My dad offered to put in fuel but his friend said there was no need as his Toyota Corolla was extremely light on fuel.

When we left home it was around 5 the afternoon. The Ramapo Reservation is very popular and offers canoeing, camping, and fishing for those not so very advanced in the art, which is me. We were all hyped and singing as if our lives depended on it, I don’t know what this guy was thinking but he seemed to be enjoying it as he just smiled.

However, this didn’t last too long. We first heard a sharp metal clanking noise and then we could only see smoke in front of us followed by hard breaking from our driver, my dad’s friend from work. We stopped on the side of the road with clouds of smoke seeming to try and engulf us, luckily there was no flames or fire, only smoke.

My father said it sounded like a piston as the two men got out to check on the engine. Here we go I thought, another weekend not going to happen. However, my dad’s friend made a call and then told us that there was no need to worry. He has a leased car and the company is sending us another car for the weekend, they are coming to collect his car and have it fixed but our plans did not need to change. This was great and the news lifted my mood instantly.

Although we had to wait for about an hour for the breakdown and the replacement car, we still got to the camping site. It was just very dark by the time we got there and we had to erect our tents in the dark. But, it was a lot of fun, we had a BBQ, told ghost stories, toasted marshmallows and went to bed very late. We were all happy as it was a great time as a family, after all, it’s the best feeling in the world to have your whole family sitting around a campfire, roasting some marshmallows.

The next morning early me and the two men sat next to the lake with our lines in the water watching the sun come up. Life seemed perfect, and all was quiet except for mother nature. We listened to the wind whispering through the trees while the birds filled the air with their songs of joy, and every now and then, there would be a rumble in the water. It was a perfect symphony and I wouldn’t change those memories for anything in the world.

Our fishing trip went wrong actually turned out to be a fishing trip gone wrong and right at the same time, if that makes any sense. This all comes to show that one’s willpower when it comes to your family can give life that extra peace and joy.
