A short but steep hike to an incredible waterfall and gorgeous cirque lake.
Leigh Lake is a 1.5 mile hike in. The trail is pretty steep and well used, but the views are worth it. You'll see an incredible waterfall at 1.25 miles, and then just another quarter mile up Leigh Lake sits in a glaciated valley just beneath Showshoe Peak, which is the highest point in the Cabinet Mountains. There are lots of mountain goats around, so be sure to bring your binoculars to check the hillsides. This is a great day hike and picnic destination. There aren't any campsites around the lake, as three quarters of the shore is rocky slope and the rest is heavily vegetated. But there are plenty of wildflowers and huckleberries!
