Description

The nice thing about this hike, is that it is just 10 miles outside of Lewistown. It is a fairly easy hike, with some challenge to it, with spectacular views of the Snowy Mountains, as well as the area around Lewistown.

This is a BLM trail, with a nice trailhead, good parking, bathroom, and signboard. This is actually part of a larger loop that one can take, but this hike is good for most people. Take water. You do gain some elevation in places, and for some, a walking stick may be a good idea. From the parking area, you follow the creek drainage up the mountain a half mile or so, walking past the Judith Mountain Lodge. (this is under new management, so I know nothing of what they offer) The trail goes along side a road part of the way. After a bit, it will peel off to the right and enter the trees. After a few switchbacks, and more than halfway up the mountain, the trail splits off. Left takes you on the loop, right takes you to the overlook. Just when you start to wonder if you will ever get there, you will see a sign telling you that it is half a mile away. Deer, hawks, eagles, and grouse are the most common animals sighted. If you are a geocacher, there is one geocache located near the overlook.
