The Winchell Trail is a local favorite for the residents of the Seward, Longfellow, Howe, and Minnehaha Neighborhoods. This 5-mile long trail is an old Native American trail that hugs the ridgeline of the Mississippi River Gorge.
The Winchell Trail is a welcome retreat for the residents of the southeastern Minneapolis neighborhoods. For 5 miles, this trail hugs the Mississippi River gorge and offers its patrons prime trail running, hiking, and birding opportunities. Most of the trail is shaded by nearby maple and oak trees, but there are sections that open up and offer amazing views of the Mississippi River Valley.
The trail stays pretty flat, so it's perfect for those hikers who want a more relaxing hike or for trail runners looking for a trail where they can work on their cadences.
