Upper and Lower Tahquamenon Falls
Upper and Lower Tahquamenon Falls is an out-and-back trail in Tahquamenon Falls State Park located near Newberry, Michigan. This trail starts at the opposite end of the park and is much longer than just going to Lower Tahquamenon Falls (a 1-mile roundtrip hike). Why the extra mileage? So you get to see both waterfalls!

Lower Tahquamenon Falls
The waterfall is only a short stroll from the parking lot but is well worth the stop. It drops over 50ft and is 200ft wide. A stunning, powerful flow. The obvious 'Rootbeer' color comes from tannic acid produced by decaying hemlocks, cedars, and spruces along the river's banks. There are various view points and a small observation deck above the falls. Don't be shocked if you spot a bear or a f...

Au Sable Point Lighthouse
This was a fun visit while at the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. There was a volunteer couple running the lighthouse portion and they were friendly, kind, and well informed. The tour itself (led by a NPS ranger I believe) was just ok, but it was still interesting. The views at the top of the lighthouse make this a worthy $3 and hour visit!
This lighthouse was built in 1873-1874 and sta...
