Using the AdventureAide Application

How an emerging smartphone application could connect more people to the outdoor community.

Think of it like AirB&B but for outdoor adventures. A couple months ago a friend of mine introduced me to the AdventureAide Application, which is a platform for fellow lovers of the outdoors to share and host adventures for other users. At first, I'll admit I was skeptical but after doing my research and chatting with one of the app's creators I believe that this app could do some major good for the outdoor community. This is how it works, users of the app sign up to be Adventure Aides, meaning they are going to host an outdoor adventure, this can range anywhere from a yoga class in the woods, to an outdoor photography class, to a guided hike, to even a multi-day backpacking trip. These Aides post their event on the app and either keep it free, or charge depending on the type of adventure their hosting. Users of the app then search for adventures in their area and select any that interest them. There are a few ways this application can support the outdoor recreation industry. First of all the app connects the user to adventures that locals would know best (for example someone who hosts near Joshua Tree might know the best bouldering routes in the area). This connects users to the Outdoor Community wherever they might roam, for instance, let's say you move into a new city and are having trouble making friends that share your same interest for hiking or yoga on the beach, this application would help introduce you to like-minded individuals. This is also beneficial to the Aides themselves allowing them to make a profit from doing what they love, and sharing that passion with AdventureAide users. At this time the application is flourishing in the Los Angeles area with plans to move into San Diego and San Francisco soon but new Adventure Aides are popping up all over the country. My hope is that the app reaches places like my hometown of Boulevard, California. A town with limitless outdoor adventure potential but nobody to show the way, It's my opinion that a platform like this could breathe new life into these towns and give them a new identity and sense of community.
