Road Trips through Mental Time Off

100s of miles before I sleep

By: M Ev + Save to a List

Back in 2014, I was laid off from my job. Before reacquiring a full time position, I decided to head off to the north and take some time to just breathe. My trip started from San Diego via 395 to Mammoth to June Lake to Yosemite to Monterrey to Big Sur to San Luis Obispo back to San Diego. I camped in June Lake for a few days, hiked, played and volunteered at my brewerys' beer fest. I adventured into Yosemite to see some of the most picturesque viewpoints ever. It was mighty chilly in October!!!! I then drove across Cali, stopping at a random wine tasting room, to Monterrey. My time in Monterrey was spent walking along the surf watching the sunset and hanging out in my small hostel. The next day I took off to Big Sur, hiked, stopped to make a million pictures and just enjoyed all of the other tourists. That evening I spent the night in SLO and hung out with even more travellers at the hostel. The next day I planned to make a few pit stops along the coast as I was going home. EVERY CITY WAS FOGGED IN. Santa Barbara, San Simeon, etc.....I just buzzed home and prepped for a friends arrival.

All of this time was spent in my head and talking to strangers. I love random trips like this in which you can reconnect with yourself. Rebalance your spirit. Get out of your comfort zone. Meet some people from all over the world. Wonder what those other people are doing traveling as well. And plainly just breathe and be you.
