8 hours travel for an 8 mile run

By: M Ev + Save to a List

A few years back, a few coworkers and I traveled to #ZionNationalPark (well, really, the outskirts of it) to do the #RagnarRelay. (If you havent heard of it, take a quick sec to use the Google machine.) This is more or less a 24 hour journey of mental toughness and endurance. We did have to wait hours for our wave to begin which i could do without the next time. The area was a sea of camping; amongst horse doodoo and the like. As my time approached, so did some fun weather. I was hoping to finish my 1st leg by the end of sunset and avoid any potential crazy weather; even though i knew in the back of my mind i would be running in the middle of the night! The 1/4 mile of the run was pretty much up , up , up and at altitude was a bit rough. I thought for sure i was going to keel over. The temps dropped and the sleet began to fall. My excitement increased and i turned in THAT person on the trail that passed you with a smile, a WOOT and Lets Do This! I cruised around every corner, saw every vista and wanted every bit more! As i crossed the finished line and slapped the band onto the next runner, i was so high that i thought i was drunk or on drugs. The rest of the night was spent shivering, huddled in blankets, wondering if the rain would ever stop, and if we would float away. In the end, we only did 1 leg out of 3 and partied the rest of the weekend in Vegas as consolation. It was a great time, but i wanna go back and kick some serious Zion ass.
