Downing Wood

Philipstown, New York

Hudson Valley woodland retreat, nestled in a historic area. 55 miles from NYC, and only 1 mile from the Appalachian Trail!

This is the perfect campsite for getting out of the city and back to nature, for novices and expert campers alike! Fully equipped with a Casper mattress & pillows, with clean bed linens included in the price of your stay. The site is on 12 acres of scenic and bucolic woodland, so there is plenty of room to explore and take nature walks. We are located just off of the Old Albany Post Road, which is on the National Registry of Historic Places and predates the American Revolution. This quiet dirt road is perfect for mountain biking, hiking, running, walking and sightseeing and it also takes you directly to the famous Appalachian Trail (about 1 mile). We are also close to hiking, boating, state parks, the Farmer’s Market (Saturdays), farm stands and local sites (Graymoor, Garrison Institute, Boscobel, Constitution Marsh, Manitoga, etc.). We are a 20 minute drive from the scenic and charming town of Cold Spring and its exquisite dining, shopping and cultural events; 30 minutes to Beacon; less than six miles to the Garrison Metro North station
