Gorgeous Views of Lake TahoeSurrounded by forest full of running and hiking trailsPlenty of bouldering and rock climbing spots (5.9 mostly)

We stayed at the Berkeley Camp (7600 feet elevation) about a quarter mile from Echo Lake. There are rustic cabins to rent with showers and bathrooms nearby. Part of the Pacific Crest Trail passes right by the camp and we took advantage of day hikes leading around Echo Lake and even into South Lake Tahoe. There is an awesome 5.9 rock climbing route that leads from the lake to Berkeley Camp, it has preset anchors and gorgeous views. We spend most of our time hiking and running the miles of trails. Echo Lake is also stocked with rainbow trout year round and there are plenty of gorgeous spots along the shore to cast a line.My favorite hike was on the West side of the lake. You can take a boat taxi from the docks across the lake to hike to Aloha Lake. Its a moderate hike with gorgeous views. Make sure to pack lots of water if you are planning to explore in the summer time. When you are finished with the hike, there is a direct line phone to call the boat to pick you back up . It is $12 per person, but definitely worth it in my opinion. If you are planning to backpack and camp make sure you pay attention to where the forestry permits are required! Have fun and enjoy a different view of the Tahoe region!
