How We Plan

Planning the next extended or epic adventure for your family.

By: Janel Vandyke + Save to a List

Lots of people, mom's in particular have asked me to write a new book about how I plan our longer adventures. While I have thrown the idea around multiple times, I'm not seeing it as a book yet. However, a blog series, absolutely. Maybe a podcast too, if I can ever figure out how to do that. (For those of you that don't know me personally, I struggle with technology. Too many long stinks in the wild leaves me to constantly play catch-up.)
On Tuesday's and Thursday of each week, until I think I have covered all the topics necessary, and answered any questions that may be sent, I will be telling you about how I plan for extended adventures into the more remote places in the country. (International will come when Bear is a little bit older.)
Please keep in mind, that although this works for our family, it may not work for yours. Each experience, family, and individual is different and has needs that can vary greatly from trip to trip and year to year.
The basic principle for all adventures for us, is the pull, an internal desire, to explore and learn first hand knowledge about a place or culture.
So where does your heart want to go?

We want to acknowledge and thank the past, present, and future generations of all Native Nations and Indigenous Peoples whose ancestral lands we travel, explore, and play on. Always practice Leave No Trace ethics on your adventures and follow local regulations. Please explore responsibly!

Do you love the outdoors?

Yep, us too. That's why we send you the best local adventures, stories, and expert advice, right to your inbox.
