The Des Plaines River Trail is 9.8 miles out-and-back with minimal elevation gain. The trail winds along prairies, ponds, and swimming holes.

The end of the trail offers a scenic view of the nearby landscapes. Due to the length of the trail, use is recommended for intermediate - advanced hikers, bikers, or trail runners.

This trail heads north out of the Old School Forest Preserve. About halfway down the trail you will pass Minear Lake, a popular local swimming hole.
