XC-Skiing Along the Big Wood River
Ketchum, Idaho
Description
Added by Taylor Davies
Quite simply, it's a short drive out of Ketchum to reach some of the best cross-country ski terrain in the country. There are trails to suit any skill level, and the opportunity to hear nothing but the snow falling from the branches onto the powder below.
The Sawtooth National Recreation Area is a great spot for those who want to cross-country ski (or snowshoe) and find some peace and quiet at the same time. A huge nordic ski community ensures that trails out here are kept in great condition (groomed) as long as the snow is good. Whether you want to skate or classic ski, trails will take you winding along the river (take your headphones out and just listen) back into the forest and out into open fields with stunning mountain views and straightaways groomed for speed.
