Bay Watch on the Morno Peninsula

Site seeing in Melbourne? The Mornington-Peninsula is the place to go for beach bums, wave seekers and lovers of the coastal roads

So its finally school holidays, meaning free time to study hard before our year 12 exams LOL no, more like time for some road trips to the beautiful beaches that surround the coast of the Mornington-Peninsula.

A short 42 minute drive from Frankston will take you to the town Blairgowrie right before the coastal point in Sorrento. Known for its back surf beaches and cliff jumps, this little surf coast is stunningly picturesque and makes for a nice morning out for some wave watching or even a surf if you're game.

The view of Bridgewater Bay from the lookout, Blairgowrie

Taking a morning off from our *extremely intense* study days, my friend Caitlyn and I put our Spotify tunes on and drove along the Mornington-Peninsula freeway, getting off at Jetty Road in Rosebud. From there we got onto Eastbourne Road, then Nepean Highway until we found a little bush walk and look-out location at the end of St Johns Wood Road. We were a little lost at first, as we were originally looking for the location of the cliff jumps that Blairgowrie is renowned for; a popular summer destination for reckless youth. Not that we were going to jump or anything (it was waaaaay too cold for that!) The bush walk we went on took us to the look-out of Bridgewater Bay, which is the location of the cliff jumps, however that was located on the other side to us. Instead, we found a cute little chair to sit on that gave us a spectacular 180 degree view of the bay and the surrounding rocks that enclosed the vast blue water, laced with white wash from the endless waves.

The walk to the lookout

It is definitely a worth-while visit for those who like coastal hikes, a bit of a surf or an adventurous jump from a 10 metre rock. However, I suggest visiting on a day where the sun is shining and the sky is cloudless -unlike our windy winter's morning. Nonetheless, it was still just as lovely to sit on the lookout, snuggled in a doona and blanket drinking a hot choccie whilst the wind summoned the waves around us.
