Ultimate Beach Day at Ala Moana Beach Park
Honolulu, Hawaii
Description
Added by Shauna Simons
Surfing, paddle boarding, swimming, yoga, running, walking, and tennis, biking, picnicking and cruising—Ala Moana Beach Park is a big playground that offers something for everyone.
As far as city parks go, Ala Moana Beach is pretty awesome and a great alternative to busy Waikiki Beach. Although this beach is man-made, the water is almost always calm (it’s protected by an outer reef) and makes for a convenient and family-friendly spot to spend the day or enjoy the sunset (sunrise here is pretty, too!).
Parking here can be difficult on a weekend, however there are many spaces available along the beach and in the Magic Island parking area, so your chances are good. There are no “water toy” rentals available on-site, so you’ll have to bring your own, or have some delivered (a few companies will do this in town). You may also want to research ahead of time to find out what group events/activities are happening at the beach, as there are many fun classes that happen here—yoga, paddle boarding, even yoga on a paddle board.
Magic Island, the outlet of land toward the East side of the park, is a nice spot to picnic. It’s also the best spot on the island to catch the Friday night firework show put on by Hilton Waikiki Hotel.
