Shakespeare and Company
Paris, France
Description
Added by Izabella B
Shakespeare and Company is a small bookstore with a library on the second floor that Ernest Hemingway and other prominent literary figures from the 1920's read at.
When you first walk into the store, you'll see that it is filled from the floor to the ceiling with books. However, the store on the first floor is hardly the beginning. Once you make it up to the second floor, you will see shelves of old books from when Hemingway and other authors lived in Paris. They have a typewriter, old piano, and cat to keep you company while you read. My favorite part is the wall where writers can leave a note of encouragement or advice for future writers. The staff is incredibly kind and even encourages people to sit and read for as long as they would like. This hidden gem is a must for all book lovers!
