The main 8.5 mile long trip will take you about 4 hours, unless you take your time and are not in a hurry. No reservation is needed, but plan to be on the water by 11am (before it gets too crowded). If you don't want to take the shuttle back but still want to kayak/canoe for awhile, they have all-day rentals (you just have to return the boat by the end of the day):

This section of the Wekiva River is very natural and allows you to experience outdoor therapy at whatever pace you prefer! Paddling out of the King's Landing Dock, you can either turn left or right. To the left you will find a small shore with a table and grill, along with a rope swing and clear water to swim in. Also to the left is the 8.5 mile trip down the river along with another rope swing or two down the path. To the right of the King's Landing Dock you will find a 'trail' which you must paddle against the current, but it also has some natural aspects (such as a fallen tree across the width of the canal that you must pull your boat over). This direction also has a tree with a board and some 'handholds' nailed to it so that you can jump off into the clear water!
