Hike in Seitseminen Nature Park

Ikaalinen, Finland

16.2 miles

Experience how crofters used to make their living in remote backwoods. Great place to start exploring the old forests, lakes and marshes. Just 3 hour drive from Helsinki

Wikipedia tells: Seitseminen National Park is located in the municipalities of Ikaalinen and Ylöjärvi in Finland. The national park was established in 1982 and later expanded in 1989. It now covers 45.5 square kilometres (17.6 sq mi). The park is a typical mix of upland and lowland. Upland areas are dominated by closed productive stands of Norway spruce and Scots pine while lowland areas are covered by sphagnum swamp and bog areas that also contain stunted (Scots pine) and shrublike (Norway spruce). Parts of the park contain some of the most ancient and oldest forests that are accessible to public in Finland.

The nature area isn't so big that you would be needing to refill your water if going for one day or night trip. Basic 3 litre should do fine including some water for cooking food. In case you need to resupply there are few places where you can do so. The host in Seitseminen nature center didn't recommend using the dwells in the area as they may not be clean and the only place I would recommend you to refill your water is the Nature center.

Paths were well in good condition and almost in the areas where footpaths were old and rotted they already had either replaced them or had material waiting to be used. The park has restrictions on camping and it should only be done in the designated areas. There are multiple fire grounds for grilling and the park provides burning wood. Outdoor toilets can be found from vicinity; bring your own papers though.
