Winter Trip to Lake Baikal, Expedition among Siberian Wonders.

An adventurous trip to explore Russia, its incredible natural landscapes and ancient traditions.

By: Explore Russia + Save to a List

Lake Baikal is the deepest and largest lake in the world. It preserves the 20% all word's reserve of fresh water and last but not least it's one of the oldest thing that exists on earth. I was almost miss that in winter is totally frozen and you can even drive on it.

Frozen surface is from February to the end of April, and in this time you can make very unusual activities that just Lake Baikal allows you to do. Before that it's important to keep in mind that the Blue Eye of Siberia is considered as sacral place, where the Buryat people (nomads community that live there), go to pray and talk to "him". The first thing that you have to do is to ask the Lake for protection and permission to be on this part of the world. Me and my family can bring you there once you will arrive to this amazing wonder.

Walking through the coast of Buguldeyka, in the south west coast of the Lake, you can easily reach the Olkhon Island, amazing spot where to admire the natural landscape and make some trekking.
