Top 6 Reasons I Love Living in the West

By: Emma Zhao + Save to a List

America is a big country. It contains several regions, and each one has its unique pros and cons. However, I just love living in the west. There is something about it that lights my heart up living here. If you are considering making a move or just want to know what is so great about this part of the country, then you're in luck. Let me break it down:

1. Lots of Sunshine

Maybe it's just me, but I absolutely love the sun. I just can't seem to get enough of it. When I was living in the northeast for the longest time, I did not see the sun but for a few months per year. Here in the west, we have it almost all year long.

I remember the first time I went to beach in California. I couldn't believe how everything seemed so shiny and bright. It was that moment that I realized I was really going to move to this part of the country.

It's not just that the sun is pretty and warm. It also contributes to better mental health, according to studies. Now if that wasn't enough of a reason, then I don't know what else is.

2. Little to No Snow

I used to have to trudge through snow every winter up in New York. Don't get me wrong, the big city that never sleeps has a lot of attractions. But I would not count having dig your car out of 3 feet of snow just to get to work as one of them.

Snow is great to look at from afar. However, the last thing I want is to be stuck in it. I'll save my snow for skiing trips instead of having to deal with it as a daily aspect life. Luckily, since I live in the west, I have a choice.

3. Friendly People

The people you surround yourself with will have a major impact on your quality of life. They will lift you up or bring you down. I find that my friends and my coworkers are really important to my mental health. And for some reason, here in the west, they just seem to friendlier and nicer on average. One of my coworkers even helped me move things out of my basement after my flood sensor went off one day. Maybe this kindness is from all the other reasons I mentioned above.

4. Environmentally Friendly

I really care about the environment. I feel like we were put here to protect the earth and make it better, not worse. That is one of the first things I noticed about the west. People seem to care more about the environment. It could be because they are exposed to nature so much more. But more people recycle and use public transportation and bikes as opposed to other regions I have lived in or visited.

5. You Can Hike, Ski, and Surf in the Same Day

Sometimes in life, you just don't want to choose. Luckily, you don't have to hear. You can ski, you can surf, you can climb a mountain, or you can hit the town for some entertainment. The options are limitless. It's one of my favorite things about this region.

6. Meeting Famous People

I know it's kind of silly, but I am obsessed with celebrity culture and gossip. I love hearing news about an actor or singer. Even more, I love running into them when I do my daily errands. There is just something magical about it.

Choosing where you are going to live is not always easy. There are a ton of places you could choose from. Of course, each one is going to have its share of benefits and drawbacks. However, it always seems that the west has something great to offer. You might just be reading my article above and decide that you, too, want o move here.
