Rattlesnake Mountain, located in Farmington, Connecticut, offers a challenging hike via the Metacomet Trail. The trail spans approximately 2.5 miles round trip, with an elevation gain of 396 feet. The terrain is rocky and steep in parts, making it a moderate to difficult hike. The trail is marked by blue blazes and offers several scenic overlooks. The summit provides panoramic views of the surrounding area, including the Farmington River Valley and the city of Hartford. Along the trail, hikers will encounter unique geological features such as basalt cliffs and rock outcrops. Hikers should wear sturdy footwear due to the rocky terrain and bring plenty of water, especially during the summer months. The trail is open year-round, but can be slippery in wet conditions. Dogs are allowed on the trail but must be kept on leash. The trailhead is located off of Route 6 in Farmington. Parking is available but can fill up quickly on weekends.
