Harvard Lakes Trail, located in Buena Vista, Colorado, is a moderate difficulty hiking trail that spans approximately 5.08 miles round trip. The trail features two alpine lakes, Lower and Upper Harvard Lakes, which are the main attractions of this hike. The trailhead starts at an elevation of 9,900 feet and gradually ascends to 10,700 feet, offering a total elevation gain of 1,765 feet. The trail is well-marked and winds through a dense forest of spruce and fir trees. As you progress, you'll encounter a series of switchbacks leading to the Lower Harvard Lake. The Upper Harvard Lake is another half mile from the lower lake, with a steeper climb. Hikers should be prepared for the high altitude and bring plenty of water. The best time to hike this trail is from June to October, when the trail is free of snow. Despite its moderate difficulty, the Harvard Lakes Trail offers a rewarding hike with scenic views of alpine lakes and surrounding peaks.
