Mount Bierstadt is a beautiful beginner friendly "first timer" fourteener. Mt. Bierstadt is considered to be the easiest 14er in Colorado. While it may be the easiest 14er, it is still a 14er nonetheless and getting to the top is no easy feat.
We began our summit at 11,700 ft above sea level at 5:30 am. At 5:30 in early August it was very cold to start our hike, and we were thankful we brought many warm layers and hats. Crossing a few small bridges over tall marsh starts the hike. About 20 minutes into our hike we encounter a baby moose less than 50 yards away! We also ran into an unexpected stream/river, while it was barley dawn we thought the only way across was to hop across rocks, on our way down we then saw there was a narrower part just upstream that could easily be stepped over. What's great about this hike is the summit is always in site, and while it only took about 3 hours to summit, it seemed as though the summit never grew closer. Even though the summit didn't seem to be getting closer, the views below were ever changing and increasingly beautiful. The upper boulder field was a great change in pace to reach the summit. After gaining about 2,700 ft. we summited around 9:30. The views were amazing and luckily enough we didn't get caught in any summer thunderstorms.
