Description

Added by Noah West

This 5.6 mile hike takes you to one of the best abandoned gold mines Colorado has to offer and is stocked with adventures.

Even in the winter the trail is easily distinguished. The trail will branch off to the left and take you through the trees for a few miles, but will eventually take you back down into the valley. The cabins sit in a natural amphitheater and offer great views of the valley.

When I first did this hike I was going up to photograph the sunset and stars. Conditions were amazing at the parking lot, but when the sun went down, the temperatures dropped into the negatives and made for a cold and beautiful night.

Getting there: From Denver, take I-70 west to Copper Mountain, exit 195. Go south on CO 91 for 5.8 miles. The Mayflower Gulch Trailhead is on the left.
