A beautiful hike just a short (but rough) drive from West Vail, CO.

Let me just start by saying this hike is absolutely picturesque.

A stunning view as soon at the beginning of the trailhead. However, don't let that stop you from getting your heart-rate up because you didn't have to work for the view! It only gets better from there if you can imagine. Traverse through open fields and take in the view of the mountains before you enter into white aspen groves.

It's a 3 mile hike one way to the Piney River Falls. A gushing waterfall in the late spring due to all the snow melt.

Get there early if you want to beat the crowds...this can be a popular hike throughout the summer. However Red Sandstone Road is quite a bumpy road. Best in an SUV... but can certainly be done slowly in a smaller compact car!
