Golden Gate Canyon State Park is an excellent quick getaway, and the Forgotten Valley is the primo spot in the park. Just minutes from downtown Denver, Golden, and Boulder, the park offers clean, family and dog friendly backcountry campsites.
Campsites here are well managed, with each site spaced very well apart so that you feel complete privacy at your tent. There are many picnic tables, and a stocked trout pond, which is fun for novice fishermen. Quick afternoon hikes offer views of canyon vistas and excellent wildflowers.
Easy backcountry trails make for a great overnight stop for the novice or child, or just a quick night out to test some new gear. These trails have excellent vistas as you climb into the Forgotten Valley, and eventually take you to a historical homestead that is great for exploring, as well.
