Hike the "Avatar" mountains in Huangshan, Anhui, China

Huangshan, China

Description

Added by Jenna Elizabeth

The inspiration of the film Avatar comes from the mystical, incredibly massive mountains in China.

Huangshan 黄山 /hwung-shan/ huang means yellow and shan means mountain(s).

The Yellow Mountains in Huangshan are named not because they are yellow but after the legendary Yellow Emperor in 747AD. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is famous for its natural scenery, seas of clouds, instant change of weather and of course, the spectacular oddly-shaped mountains.

There are an estimated 60,000 steps alongside paths through out the entire Yellow Mountains. There are also three different cable cars as an options to take a leisurely ride to the (almost) top. Once you're up there find your way to your hotel and get exploring.

Suggested time to visit all depends on how much of a nature freak you are as well as fit. The elevation and hikes are strenuous and will make you exhausted.

There are options to tent or stay at the hotels provided on the mountain. Be aware it is very expensive, as they are the only option.

*Don't feed the monkeys :)
