Bouldering at Indian Rock
Indian Rock is one of the most popular outdoor bouldering spots in Berkeley. With over 80 problems, there's plenty of routes for beginners to the most advanced climbers. After parking in the surrounding neighborhood, it's an easy walk into the park.
Aside from enjoying the challenge of new routes and improving your technique, be sure to enjoy the views from the top of Indian Rock. This park is ...
Tilden Little Farm
First make sure to stop at the store and stock up on fresh lettuce and celery for the animals. Your kids (or just the kid in you) will love to feed them! Note that they're only allowed to eat lettuce and celery, so don't try to feed them your own snacks or get creative. ;)
If you want to make it a full day adventure, bring a picnic lunch (there are grills and picnic tables), some outdoor games...
Berkeley Rose Garden
I'm always surprised at how few people know of this beautiful garden. I'm often alone when I visit, which allows for perfect serenity. Visit in early spring for maximum blooms.
Park on Euclid Ave, which is where you'll find the entrance to the amphitheater (you can't miss the giant sign). Spend the evening wandering among the maze of blooms with your sweetheart. Did I mention it's oh so romant...
Hidden Waterfall in Codornices Park
Park along the street in front of Codornices Park in Berkeley. Follow the stream to the left of the playground. Take the path up the hill to the right (don't head over the bridge on the left). Keep walking up multiple concrete stairs. After the first flight of stairs you'll see a path on the left that leads through a wooden gate. Take this path and keep heading up into the hills. Take any of th...
Hike the Wildcat Canyon Loop
Starting off on Wildcat Creek Trail, the trail is wide and rolling. After about 4 miles make a left on Jewel Trail, then onto Sylvan Trail. Another left puts you on Wildcat Peak Trail. Be sure to check your map, as many trails intersect here. Wildcat Peak Trail runs into Nimitz Way, at which point turn left. This is a great grassy spot for a picnic, with views that overlook the bay. From here, h...
Lake Anza in Tilden Park
Lake Anza makes for a great warm weather swimming hole. The parking area is close to the beach along with the trail, which will take you around the lake. The beach gets plenty of sun and is fairly wind protected, which makes for a relaxing day. Bring some picnic food out to the lake and snag your spot early or stop at one of the park's picnic areas and enjoy lunch before or after going for a sw...
