The Tangle Blue Lake Trail, in the Trinity Alps Wilderness, is a 6.1 mile hike to a lovely lake, featuring scenic views of the surrounding forests and snow-capped peaks.
The Tangle Blue Lake Trail runs alongside a creek, and the trail leads right through Messner's cabin site. The hike goes through lush, green meadows. When you get to the lake, be weary of mud on the east side. The lake is gorgeous and warm enough for a long swim before hiking back.
It is recommended for your car to have 4WD given the many washouts on the road to the trailhead. Dogs are allowed on the trail but must be kept on leash.
