Starts at the parking lot/camping area. $8 parking fee. There is an observatory, visitor's center and horse trailer parking as well. First part of the trail begins by the observatory and is rocky and unpaved. About a mile in you hit a fire road and can take that the res of 2.5 miles up to the top of Bald Mountain. It is definitely a climb! Very few flat or downhill areas. Hard on the knees on the way down. At the top there is one bench and two signs that name every mountain and point of interest you can see from the top. Mt. Tam, Mt. St. Helena, Napa, the Sierras far off in the distance!
