Need to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city? Take a drive down towards the coast to enjoy the fresh ocean breeze and the vibrant sunsets!

Huntington Beach, also known as Surf City USA is located in Orange County, California. This oceanside community hosts a large history of surfing culture that is experienced throughout the whole city. Being an outdoor enthusiast I need a place where I can get out and enjoy a sunrise/sunset to break away from the school and work routine that I have. Throughout the week I prefer heading out towards the coast to enjoy a sunset after school or work; I've been doing this for a few years now and have accumulated some "must have" items that I always bring with me to these sessions. These tips are geared towards my favorite local beach - Huntington Beach, but these can be applied to any beach with some creativity!

In Huntington there are two main spots that I head off to for a sunrise or sunset. Huntington Beach Pier and the "Grassy Knoll" just about a half a mile north of the pier on PCH. You can find this spot by walking North on the sidewalk from the pier and you'll eventually run into it - you can't miss it.

The general address is - 1172 Pacific Coast Hwy, Huntington Beach, CA 92648

After my Yosemite trip last summer I fell in love with Hammocking, when we finally got back home I knew I had to get out and fuel that want to hang and relax. While skating around on the sidewalk I rode past this grassy hill and knew instantly that this spot is my getaway. Since then I've spent countless evenings hanging around and enjoying the sunset with friends and even by myself. There are plenty of trees around to hang a few hammocks around. In the photo above you can see the particular spot I enjoy, it's right next to the sidewalk but there's a grouping of trees to hang 2-3 hammocks on, even a slack-line across them all.

Now that you've got your relaxing spot to spend the evening, you will want to bring some essentials (listed below). These items all have a set purpose in your setup, I try to keep things as minimal as possible and I found that this kit has suited me best. Once you have your gear all together, you're all set, time to kick back and enjoy the view!
