Dive/Snorkel at The Dogs

Spanish Town, British Virgin Islands

Description

Added by Ian Riley

The dogs are a group of five islets located to the northwest of Virgin Gorda. The spots offer a lot of diversity in a small area.

The dogs are are a group of small islands that have great diving. The fact that they aren't all in one spot can make it hard on some because they will want to go between them.

The Chimney(Great Dog) novice

One of the most famous dives in this area is the chimney, the chimney rises to with in a few feet of the surface and attracts a lot of fish. Not unusual to see a barracuda.

The Visibles(Cockroach Island) novice/advanced

This spot is located off the west side of the island and due to its location has the tendency to have strong currents. The current can make it a challenging dive but also a great dive, the current brings in big fish that you wouldn't get at most dive sites.

Airplane wreck (Great Dog) beginner/novice

This is a different dive due to whats in the water. Yes a plane! There is a small island plane from the old company of Atlantic Air BVI. The plane isn't the only thing to dive here for, there is also a nice coral reef.

Seal Dogs Rocks Novice/Intermediate

This is a dive that is very exposed to the ocean and with that you might see bigger fish such as shark and rays. Definitely a dive to bring your camera and maybe a dive knife.

How I would travel to this spots and others

If you're looking into a trip to the islands and want a boat because this spot and every other island are only accessible by boat I would recommend you look into MarineMax Vacations. They have a great selection of trips and boat sizes. If you work with MarineMax vacations they partner with Sail Caribbean divers and through them you have the option to rent kayaks and paddle boards along with dive gear. Its a very easy way to get all your stuff though one company and it will be waiting on the boat when you get there. I recommend this company and have used them before, its a great way to see the islands and great spots like this.

If renting a boat isn't your thing and you stay on land there  are also water taxis so you can still get out on the water. Almost any water taxi will take you here but i recommend dolphin shuttle, they again are good company I have used and liked.
