If you're not already familiar with the Senator Highway, then it's time you adventure down the crown jewel of Arizona backroad travel to see Palace Station!

Senator highway was built in 1866 as part of the Prescott and Lyn Toll Road. It extends 32 miles and connects with Crown King. During the 1880's Palace Station was a prime Bradshaw destination for travelers on the stagecoach.

It should be clear that it is recommended that you have a 4WD with additional clearance, although AWD with additional clearance would also work, but be sure to check the weather reports.

Travel North on Interstate I-17 to AZ-69 in Cordes Lakes. Take exit 262 from I-17. Continue on AZ-69 North. As you drive through the town of Mayer, take a left onto Main Street and turn right. Turn left onto Wicks Avenue and another left onto South Jefferson Street. Continue onto Forest Road 67 and merge right to follow South Senator Highway.

You will continue to drive on a series of switchbacks which takes you higher into the Bradshaw Mountains. Tall pine tree's align the road as the road conditions alternate between dirt and rock. Keep a look out for wildlife as you drive!

You will eventually reach a sign that marks the historic structure of Palace Station. This is currently a private residence held by the Prescott Forest Service, so do not knock or disturb the ranger. Nearby you can visit a cemetery where the founder Alfred B. Spence is buried.

After visiting Palace Station, you have the option to travel back the way you came or continue onto Crown King!
