Max Patch Mountain
At the summit you can walk along the ridge and soak in the Smoky views at 4,616′ elevation.
Max Patch had been on my list for awhile. And it did not disappoint! This North Carolina bald had been cleared for farming in the 1800s and now makes the perfect grassy campsite offering unbeatable 360° views. If you drive to the trail head, the hike to the top is an easy stroll (1.4 miles) making this somewhat crowded on the weekends.
I arrived during the week and there were only a few other people. Trail signs indicate no camping, however many people set up for the night. At the summit you can walk along the ridge and soak in the Smoky views at 4,616′ elevation. In the summer this place is covered in gorgeous wild flowers.
You don't want to miss out so next time you're in the Tennessee/North Carolina area remember that it's worth the drive!
