Verona Riverside Retreat

Bucksport, Maine

Between the mouth of a river and an 1880s farm

Holding the Penobscot Narrows Bridge, Verona Island is the gateway to Downeast Maine. Revitalized Bucksport is 3 miles away. Acadia National Park is 45 minutes. The site is on the edge of a small organic vegetable farm with sheep, chickens, cats, and a border collie. The site is private to the farm. There are some houses visible across the river, and there are a variety of boats that come by. In the summer you may see a cruise boat, tug, tanker or yacht. The trees are mixed, and there are blueberry patches on the site. In early fall there are about 20 wild apple trees spread around the farm. We do have organic produce, grass-fed lamb, maple syrup, and crafts available in a small store. You can also check out a paddle for the pond canoe if everyone is water safe. (You can kayak the river if you bring your own and can manage currents. A trip around Verona Island will take a few hours.) Biking around Verona is a popular 8-mile route. The Wildlands hiking area its nearby in Orland.
