The ausable lakes have a special place in my heart- one of the reasons Indian head and fish hawk cliffs are one of my favorite easier hikes in the ADKs. Although hiking starts on the lake road, it is a beautiful road, and right below the start of the trail there is a cutoff to a waterfall. The trail is relatively easy, following Benny's brook partway up to Indians head, which has a breathtaking view of upper and lower and the surrounding mountains. Fish hawk cliffs is not much of a walk beyond, and equally as pretty.

I've hiked owls head so many times I've lost count. It is such a short and easy hike with a rewarding view for its height. It's so easy to hike this mountain when you have a free hour or two, because it's so close to Keene. It was my first mountain, and is a great mountain for little kids learning to hike. There is also a cliff near the summit used for climbing, and Though I have never climbed it I am planning on it!

This mountain is definitely one of my favorites in the high peaks region. The hike is not too long, and pretty moderate but beautiful. The summit has a special advantage though, (aside from the fire tower) because you are not right in the range, you are set back from it. This allows you to view the great range and the mountains surrounding it simultaneously, which is a great experience and beautiful! Highly recommended.
