Description

Added by Tiffany Nguyen

This panoramic viewpoint is only a short walk from the parking lot. You'll walk through the otherworldly maze of eroded badlands. This adventure is located a short distance from Furnace Creek Campground.

Zabriskie Point is a unique viewpoint in Death Valley National Park located just east of Furnace Creek on Hwy 190. The viewpoint is just a short stroll from the parking lot, so it’s great for groups and families. When you reach the viewpoint, you’ll be overlooking the epic maze of finely ridged badlands with the Black Mountains as a backdrop. The vibrantly colored badlands are especially stunning during sunrise or sunset.

Zabriskie Point is definitely best known for its distinctly eroded landscape. Most people take in the view from the main path, but following the trail at the bottom of the ramp allows you to take a surreal walk through the one of a kind badlands and appreciate the amazing rock formations from a different perspective. The badlands feature sediments from the dried Furnace Creek Lake which existed over 5 million years ago. These unique formations are not to be missed during your visit to Death Valley.

Zabriskie Point Reviews

There is a nice parking lot and paved walking trail to the lookout. There is also and opportunity to walk among the badlands with the Badlands Loop Trail. Please be cautious of posted NPS about where to hike.

The colors are spectacular. Watching light illuminate all the cracks and a cloak of color come down the ridge is just awesome.

This spot has been under construction for a while, so you may be confined to a lookout area when visiting. But I would stay say it is worth the stop! Sunset here was one of the most colorful I've ever witnessed.
