If you're in Cody, WY or passing through to or from Yellowstone, you will want to take a day and explore Spirit Cave. Located just on the outskirts of town, you can spend an hour or all day exploring the different caverns, ups, downs, and - if you're daring and have a few hours - find your way down to the "drum room" where you can beat on the different resonating rocks.

Spirit Cave is located just outside town.  From Cody, take US Hwy 14/16/20 west for 3.9 miles, past the Rodeo grounds.  Once you pass the "Welcome to Cody, WY" sign, you'll turn left near the Cedar Mountain Trail Rides horse stalls and go up the winding dirt road.  This road is pretty rough, so it's best in a truck or higher vehicle, although I've seen people accomplish this many times in a car.  You will go up 6.7 miles miles.  You will come to an open parking lot on the right where you'll see the trail head sign.

Beware of horses, pets, and hikers on the mountain while you're driving up the road.

I've seen many campers on the gravel road up the mountain, so you may think about bringing your tent.  Usually these sites have a beautiful view of the city and valley below.  Although it can get windy in the evening.

*NOTE: You will have to go by the BLM in town to get the key and helmets.  You'll also need to have $20 cash for the deposit - which you get back, so it doesn't actually cost anything.
