Description

Experience the beauty of Wisconsin via the Sunset Bike Trail.

Situated between Fish Creek and Ephraim is Peninsula State Park, which is home to eight miles of Green Bay shoreline. Acres of northern hardwood forests, wetlands, meadows and 150-foot high dolostone cliffs showcase the beauty and magnificence of Wisconsin's Door County.

BYOB (Bring Your Own Bike) or rent one from Edge of Park Rentals. Check the website for pricing. There is a ton to see in this state park and biking is one of the best ways to see it all! There are 20 miles of bike trails available, but the most popular route is the Sunset Bike Trail.

Just beyond the park entrance, hop on to the Sunset Bike Trail. This will lead you on a beautiful path through White Cedar Forest, Blossomburg Cemetery, Tennison Bay and on to Eagle Bluff Lighthouse. Make your first pit stop here at the lighthouse. It's worth it to park your bike and walk up to check out the lighthouse and view of the bay.

From here, continue along Sunset Bike Trail past Welcker's Point and make your second pit stop at Nicolet Beach. There is a convenience store here and a little concession stand to purchase food and drinks. Pack your swimsuit and take some time to swim and enjoy Nicolet Bay. There is a sand beach here as well as many tables to have a picnic lunch. If you forget your suit, they sell them in the convenience store!

After Nicolet Bay, continue along the Sunset Bike Trail and connect onto Hemlock Road which leads you back to the park entrance. There are trail markers all along the trail complete with mile markers. There are also hills along the way so be prepared for some fun uphills and downhills. Enjoy!
