Devils lake trails and bath houses were constructed in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps trying to provide a better life for their family's. They hand layed stones for steps up the steep mountain in a way that seems almost natural. From the foot of the trail you can hardly see a trail at all except a bunch or piled rocks. Once you get closer you can make out where the steps are one by one. CCC is the steepest route up the mountain only .3 miles long but it takes around 45 minutes to climb. Same with balanced rock approx. .4 miles long and takes around 45 minutes to hike. Once you hike up CCC you will come to east bluff trail where you will walk along the high ground to see some spectacular views. Also you will most likely encounter rock climbers scaleing the quartz face. Keep your eye out for bald eagles! Then you will begin your decent down balanced rock. That's just one of many ways to start and complete you hike. Just grab a map from the park guide on the way in and have fun.
