The drive to the trailhead isn't too far from Leavenworth, making this an easily accessible hike if visiting the area. To get there turn onto Icicle Creek Road from US2 on the far western side of Leavenworth. Take this road 8.4 miles and turn until you reach Forest Service Road 7601 where you'll turn left. Follow the partially maintained dirt road 3.7 miles to the Stuart Lake trailhead. There are bathrooms and room for about 25 cars in the parking lot.

It's important to note that a northwest forest pass is required, and depending on what time of the year you visit you may also need permits (if camping). Also - the FR 7601 from Icicle Creek Road to the trailhead closes during the winter, typically from November to May, making for a short summer hiking season.

The majority of the hike is within thick trees. Your path will cross streams and creeks making it all too picturesque. During the fall months, the colors are gorgeous and weather is ideal. Look for signs directing you to Colchuck Lake, there are only a few turn offs and they are well marked with directions.

The last part of the hike is a decently steep stretch, however it spits you out in the most beautiful territory leaving you with glimpses of aqua blue water. Any hunger, thirst, or leg pain you may have been whining about will all be forgotten as you approach the deep blue/green lake.

Definitely bring a lunch so you can spend some time at the lake and relax!
